DEFINITION OF FUNCTION: This device
provides a differential phase shift between the fundamental and
harmonically related frequencies.
APPLICATIONS: Optimization and enhancement
of traveling wave tubes or amplifiers when a significant amount
of power is contained in the harmonic frequency band or emphasis
or de-emphasis of harmonic levels is required.
HOW TO SPECIFY
Certain parameters must be defined prior to ordering these phase
shifters. The following is a list of those parameters along with
a brief definition and a method for determining your specifications.
PHASE SHIFT: The available phase
shifts are 200° and 300° configurations, both being adjustable
through their entire ranges. This parameter shall be specified
in accordance with your particular needs.
FREQUENCY BANDS: Specify both the
fundamental frequency range and the portion of the harmonic band
where the differential phase shift is required.
INSERTION LOSS: The insertion loss
of these devices is attributable to both absorptive and reflective
losses, which are measured throughout the frequency of operation
including the harmonic band. This parameter is specified as a
maximum level. The typical insertion loss of a 200° octave
C band harmonic phase shifter is 1.0dB, and 1.25dB for that of
a 300° harmonic phase shifter. However, this may vary slightly
with higher and lower frequency ranges.
VSWR: This parameter is dependent on many factors such as phase
shift, bandwidth, operating frequency range, size and configuration.
However, input and output VSWR under most circumstances should
not exceed a 1.5:1 for 200° phase shift and 2.0:1 for 300°
phase shift.
ADJUSTABILITY: MICA can provide
user-friendly adjustments which will allow you to vary the differential
phase shift. This adjustment range is typically specified as 0
to 200° or 0 to 300°.
NOTE: Some phase shift will occur
at the zero (0) reference point. However, further adjustment will
provide the specified phase shift which shall be relative to this
zero point.
SIZE: Design and size critieria
for both 0 to 200° and 0 to 300° Harmonic Phase Shifters
can only be established after determination of all the applicable
specifications. Package sizes can then be quoted, and outline
drawings provided, for a detailed mechanical layout.
OPTIONS
FUNDAMENTAL BANDWIDTH: Available
in bandwidths from less than 30% to octave plus.
FREQUENCY RANGE: 500 MHz to 26.5
GHz
HARMONIC PHASE SHIFT: Available
in 200° or 300° configurations.
FIELD ADJUSTABLE: MICA harmonic
phase shifters are made field adjustable which will allow you
to optimize your system output while being in full operation.
CONNECTORS: MICA provides SMA Female
as standard connectors. Other SMA series connectors can be provided
on request. TNC and type "N" connectors are not recommended;
however may be made available by special order.
